Melissa Seraphy WIP Part 2

So I'm back! Time to write the continuation of this WIP. And this time around I'll be talking about the painting process, the most exciting part of scale modelling!

Lets get started!

After priming and painting all the parts in flat white (to have a neutral/white canvas) I've decided to first paint the flesh tone, so I first paint the parts where I think the shadows would show, with clear orange.

Then I paint the flesh tone and avoided painting over the "shadows" instead I sprayed light mist to blend the clear orange with the flesh tone.

As for the leaves I tried to mix some yellow and brown and painted the parts that seemed to be eaten or rotting, then the rest were painted green.

Then I did some pre-shading of black with the ribbon and was painted red with some white mixed.

And I just recently acquired some pearl powder and wanted to try it on so i decided to mix it with a clear topcoat and painted the ribbon and her underwear. But it seems that the picture was not able to capture the pearl effect of the ribbon, while her panties looked nice but I think it would have been better if the pink was lighter.

After letting the skin tone to fully cure I've masked the body for me to be able to paint her top black, also I've masked the skull decoration of her top. After painting both the top and her shoes, I was tempted to take of the masking of the skull decoration.

Also the wings were painted black

As for the inner part of the wing I decided to make it purple and did some free hand painting (I'm still used to relying on masking)

After giving her top a clear coat I did some hand brushing for the details of her top using tamiya gold leaf enamel. Lately Tamiya's gold leaf is not as brush-able as it was before... So instead of using a normal brush i made use of a cotton bud, it makes the application easier but control a lot harder. Some paint even seeped thru the masking tape which I still have to repair

Some trial assembly of parts

Here I've painted the back of the base as black, then since this is made from a clear acrylic board I just masked the eyes, mouth, and nose and continued painting the body orange. Then mixing a more brownish orange I painted some outline/shadowing. To make the pumpkin look more 3D compared to just a flat pumpkin. Still not used to painting free hand there are some defects in the base which might not show properly on the pictures. So after removing the masking tape I didn't need to paint the eyes, mouth and nose black, since this is clear and the back portion is already painted black.

So here I've painted her hair in blonde... which I'm still unsure if it would look better in her original color. The reason why she turned to blond was, during painting I didn't have a good reference to her hair color at the same time was in a hurry to finish this kit.

Some of the pictures with her pumpkin.

After that I've decided to paint her eyes, eyebrows, and mouth by hand brushing enamels. I think I still need to improve my hand brushing skills.

And here she is assembled!

She's still not yet finished, there are still several things to be done. One would be the LED mod inside the jack o lantern, and another would be the final finish, if you would notice her face and hair is a bit shiny it still needs some flatcoat. Hopefully I find the time to do so, I'm currently doing a contest entry and 1 of the rules states that I can't post any pictures of the entry until the contest begins/ends.

So that's it for now, Do leave me a comment!
